About Pride Flooring & Home Decor

Who is Pride Flooring & Home Decor?

Pride Flooring & Home Decor is a family-owned flooring retailer and installer located at 10790 SW 184th St in Miami, FL 33157. We sell and install luxury vinyl plank (LVP), engineered hardwood, laminate, porcelain tile and carpet, and we also offer window treatments and hardwood floor refinishing. You can visit our Miami showroom or book our shop-at-home service and we'll bring the samples to you. Learn more about us.

How long has Pride Flooring been in business?

Pride Flooring & Home Decor opened in September 1974, which means more than 50 years of helping Miami-Dade homeowners and businesses choose and install new floors. That track record means we're here before, during and long after your purchase. Read our story.

Is Pride Flooring a locally owned business?

Yes. Pride Flooring & Home Decor is family owned and operated, and our team lives and works in Miami-Dade County. We stock products based on local trends and South Florida's climate rather than national sales programs, and your purchase stays in the local economy. Read more on our Who We Are page.

What awards and recognition has Pride Flooring received?

Pride Flooring & Home Decor has been voted Best of Miami-Dade and has earned the Angi Super Service Award. Customers regularly share their experiences on Yelp and Angi, and you can read a selection of customer testimonials on our About page.

Why choose Pride Flooring instead of a big-box store?

You get in-stock selection, your own installation crew and more than 50 years of local know-how from one family-owned team:

  • In-house installation — our own installers handle the job from start to finish. See our installation services.
  • Large in-stock inventory of LVP, laminate and carpet, so many projects start without a special-order wait.
  • Two ways to shop — a full showroom in South Miami-Dade or shop-at-home appointments.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)

Does Pride Flooring have luxury vinyl plank in stock?

Yes. Pride Flooring & Home Decor keeps a large selection of luxury vinyl plank in stock at our Miami showroom, so many projects can start without waiting on a special order. One homebuyer who needed new floors before moving in chose an in-stock LVP, signed the next day and had installation start the day after. Browse our luxury vinyl catalog or call (305) 233-2619 to check current stock.

Is luxury vinyl plank waterproof?

Most rigid-core luxury vinyl plank (SPC and WPC) is waterproof at the plank level, meaning water won't swell or warp the planks themselves. That makes LVP one of the best choices for Miami kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms and homes with pets. Water can still find its way under any floor through the perimeter, so wipe up spills and fix leaks promptly, and check each product's specs before you buy.

What is the difference between SPC and WPC luxury vinyl?

Both are waterproof rigid-core LVP; the difference is the core:

  • SPC (stone plastic composite) has a dense, limestone-based core that resists dents and stays stable when temperatures swing, such as in sunny rooms with large windows.
  • WPC (wood plastic composite) has a foamed core that feels a little softer and quieter underfoot.

We carry both, including COREtec Pro (SPC) & COREtec Originals (WPC), COREtec and Canopy. Ask us which core suits your room.

What wear layer thickness should I choose for LVP?

The wear layer is the clear protective top coat, measured in mils. As a rule of thumb, 12 mil works for bedrooms and lighter-traffic rooms, 20 mil is the sweet spot for busy households with kids and pets, and 20 mil or more is the starting point for light commercial spaces. Many collections we carry come in several wear layers of the same look — for example, Purview, In the Grain II and Silva Valley — so you can match durability to each space.

Which luxury vinyl brands does Pride Flooring carry?

Pride Flooring & Home Decor carries COREtec, Mannington Adura, Shaw Floorte, Armstrong, Mohawk, Metroflor, Congoleum, Tarkett, EarthWerks, Dixie Home, HomeLegend and other leading LVP brands. One customer, Kris from Pembroke Pines, drove down to our showroom after reading our reviews and chose COREtec for three bedrooms and an office. See every brand on our Brands We Carry page or browse luxury vinyl online.

Can LVP be installed over existing tile?

Often, yes. Floating LVP can go over existing ceramic or porcelain tile when the tile is flat and firmly bonded; wide or deep grout lines may need to be leveled first. Door clearances, appliance heights and transitions to other rooms also need checking. One customer, Kristy, had her entire downstairs done by floating LVP over her existing porcelain tile, skipping tile demolition altogether. Our installation team will tell you whether your tile is a good candidate.

DIY, Contractors & Cash-and-Carry

Can I buy flooring from Pride Flooring without installation?

Yes. Product sales are a core part of our business, and DIYers and contractors are welcome to buy luxury vinyl plank, laminate, carpet and other flooring to install themselves. Because we keep a large inventory in stock, you can often pick up your flooring on the same visit — call (305) 233-2619 ahead to confirm the quantity you need is on hand. Start by browsing our flooring catalog.

What are cash-and-carry flooring specials?

Cash-and-carry means you buy in-stock flooring and take it with you, with no special-order wait and no installation bundled in. Pride Flooring & Home Decor offers cash-and-carry specials on selected in-stock luxury vinyl plank, laminate and carpet. Specials change with our inventory, so call or stop by the showroom to see what's available this week.

Does Pride Flooring work with contractors, builders and property managers?

Yes. General contractors, remodelers, builders, investors and property managers buy from us because we stock durable LVP that can be picked up quickly — ideal for rental turnovers and fast-moving renovation schedules. Talk to our team about pricing for larger or repeat orders, and see our commercial flooring services for multi-unit and business projects.

How much flooring should I buy?

Measure each room's length and width, multiply to get square footage, and add the rooms together. Then add 5–10% for cuts and waste on a straight layout, or 10–15% for diagonal, herringbone or rooms with lots of angles, and round up to full boxes. Keeping a spare box is smart for future touch-ups. If you'd rather have exact numbers, book a no-obligation in-home measure.

Can I install luxury vinyl plank myself? What tools do I need?

Yes. Click-lock (floating) LVP is one of the most DIY-friendly floors you can buy. The basic toolkit:

  • Tape measure, pencil and a speed square
  • Utility knife and straightedge (most rigid-core planks score and snap)
  • Tapping block, pull bar and rubber mallet
  • Spacers for the expansion gap at walls
  • Jamb or undercut saw to fit planks under door casings

On concrete slabs, which are standard in South Florida, check the manufacturer's moisture-barrier and underlayment requirements before you start, and follow the installation instructions so your warranty stays valid. Our team can help you choose the right underlayment, transitions and trim for your product.

Do you sell installation materials and supplies?

Yes. Along with flooring, we carry installation materials such as MAPEI adhesives and grout, LATICRETE setting products and Schlüter transition profiles, so you can get your floor and supplies in one stop. See the full list on our Brands We Carry page.

Engineered Hardwood & Hardwood Refinishing

Is engineered hardwood a good choice for Miami's humidity?

Yes — it's the best way to get real wood in a humid climate. Engineered hardwood has a genuine wood top layer bonded to cross-layered plies, which makes it far more dimensionally stable than solid wood as humidity rises and falls through Miami's hot, wet summers. Keep your AC running so indoor humidity stays within the manufacturer's recommended range, and choose LVP or porcelain tile for full bathrooms and laundry rooms. Browse our hardwood collection.

What is the difference between engineered and solid hardwood?

Solid hardwood is one piece of wood from top to bottom; it can be sanded many times but expands and contracts more with moisture and generally isn't installed directly over concrete. Engineered hardwood is a real-wood veneer over a stable layered core; it can be glued down or floated over concrete slabs and handles humidity better. Once installed, the two look the same.

Can engineered hardwood be installed over a concrete slab?

Yes. Most South Florida homes are built on concrete slabs, and engineered hardwood can be glued directly to the slab or floated over an underlayment with a moisture barrier, depending on the product. Our installers evaluate the slab's flatness and moisture before installation so the floor performs as it should. Learn about our installation services.

Which hardwood brands does Pride Flooring carry?

Pride Flooring & Home Decor carries Mirage (proudly made in North America), Anderson Tuftex, Eagle Creek, Kährs, Mannington, Shaw, Bruce, Hartco, Johnson Hardwood, Bella Cera, HomerWood and IndusParquet, plus cork from Wicanders and APC and bamboo from Plyboo. See every brand on our Brands We Carry page.

Does Pride Flooring refinish hardwood floors?

Yes. Hardwood refinishing sands the floor back to bare wood, lets you choose a new stain color if you want one, and finishes with fresh protective coats — renewing dull, worn or scratched floors without replacing them. Depending on the wear, a lighter screen-and-recoat may be all your floor needs. Contact us to schedule an assessment.

Can engineered hardwood be refinished?

It depends on the thickness of the wood wear layer. Engineered floors with a thicker veneer (generally 2 mm or more) can usually be sanded and refinished at least once; thinner veneers can typically only be screened and recoated. If you're shopping for engineered hardwood and want the option to refinish later, ask us to show you thicker-veneer products.

Laminate Flooring

Is laminate flooring a good choice for Florida homes?

Yes, for living rooms, bedrooms and hallways. Laminate is highly scratch-resistant, budget-friendly and offers realistic wood looks. Many newer laminates from brands like Mohawk RevWood, Pergo and Quick-Step are built to resist spills, but laminate's core is wood-based, so water left standing can still cause swelling. For full bathrooms and laundry rooms we usually recommend waterproof LVP or tile instead. Browse our laminate flooring.

Does Pride Flooring have laminate in stock?

Yes. Laminate is one of the categories we keep in stock in volume, alongside LVP and carpet, and click-lock laminate is a great fit for DIY installs and cash-and-carry purchases. Call ahead to confirm colors and quantities.

Laminate or luxury vinyl plank: which is better?

For most Miami homes, LVP is the safer all-around pick because the planks are waterproof; laminate wins on scratch resistance and is a strong value for dry rooms.

Laminate Luxury vinyl plank (LVP)
Water Water-resistant; wood-based core can swell if water sits Waterproof planks (rigid core)
Scratches and dents Very hard, scratch-resistant surface Depends on wear layer; SPC cores resist dents
Feel and sound Firm; benefits from a good underlayment Slightly softer and quieter, especially WPC
Best rooms Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways Anywhere, including kitchens, baths and laundry
DIY install Click-lock; cuts need a saw Click-lock; most planks score and snap

Porcelain & Ceramic Tile

Is porcelain tile a good choice for South Florida homes?

Yes — porcelain tile is a South Florida classic. It stays cool underfoot, isn't harmed by water, shrugs off sand and humidity, and comes in wood, stone and concrete looks, including large formats such as 24×24 and 24×48. Outdoor-rated pavers carry the same look onto patios and pool decks. Large-format tile needs a very flat subfloor, so expert installation matters. Browse our tile collection.

What is the difference between porcelain and ceramic tile?

Porcelain is made from denser, more refined clay fired at higher temperatures, so it absorbs very little water (0.5% or less) and is harder and more durable — ideal for busy floors, wet areas and outdoor use. Ceramic tile is softer and easier to cut, which makes it a great choice for walls, backsplashes and lighter-traffic floors.

Which tile brands do you carry, and do you have wall and backsplash tile?

Pride Flooring & Home Decor carries Daltile, American Olean, Bedrosians, Florida Tile, Happy Floors, LAUFEN, Megatrade, Mohawk and Shaw tile. Beyond floors, we offer wall tile and mosaics for backsplashes and showers, plus natural stone countertops.

Carpet & Carpet Tile

Does Pride Flooring sell and install carpet?

Yes. Pride Flooring & Home Decor sells carpet and provides professional carpet installation for bedrooms, family rooms and stairs, with a large selection of carpet in stock at our Miami showroom. We carry Shaw, Mohawk (including SmartStrand), Anderson Tuftex, Caress by Shaw, Dixie Home and Kane. Browse our carpet collection.

What is the best carpet for kids and pets?

Look for three things: a stain-resistant fiber such as Mohawk SmartStrand, a tighter, lower pile that hides traffic patterns, and a pet or stain warranty. Shaw LifeGuard carpet adds a spill-proof backing that keeps accidents from soaking into the pad. Bring your must-haves to the showroom and we'll narrow it down.

What is carpet tile and where does it work best?

Carpet tile is carpet made in modular squares or planks (such as 24×24 or 18×36) that are installed individually. It's the go-to for offices and commercial spaces, and it also works well in home offices, gyms and playrooms because a single damaged tile can be swapped out. We carry carpet tile from Shaw Contract, Mohawk Group, Patcraft, Philadelphia Commercial, Mannington Commercial and Tandus Centiva. Browse carpet tile.

Window Treatments

Does Pride Flooring sell window treatments?

Yes. Pride Flooring & Home Decor offers blinds, shades and shutters from leading brands including Hunter Douglas, Alta Window Fashions, Graber, and Bandalux, so you can coordinate new floors and window treatments with one team and one showroom visit. Our team helps you choose styles, colors and the right level of light control for each room. Explore our window treatments.

Do you carry Hunter Douglas window treatments?

Yes, we carry Hunter Douglas brands. Come to our showroom and check out the quality options. We take care of the whole process from product selection to installation.

Which window treatments help with Miami heat and glare?

Solar shades, light-filtering shades and blackout shades are the most effective at cutting heat gain, glare and the UV rays that fade furniture and floors. Hunter Douglas specializes in solar-control systems and energy-efficient fabrics, and Alta Window Fashions offers a full range of blinds and shades. Pairing the right shades with new hardwood or LVP also helps protect your floors' color over time.

Choosing the Right Floor for Miami

What is the best flooring for Miami's climate?

For most Miami homes, waterproof luxury vinyl plank or porcelain tile is the best choice for main living areas, kitchens and bathrooms, because both handle humidity, spills and sand without swelling. Engineered hardwood is the best option for a real-wood look in air-conditioned rooms, and carpet remains a comfortable choice for bedrooms. Our experts factor in your rooms, traffic, pets and lighting — book a design consultation for a recommendation.

What flooring is best for homes with dogs and cats?

Luxury vinyl plank with a 20 mil or thicker wear layer is the top pick for pet owners because it's waterproof and resists scratches; porcelain tile is even harder and stays cool for pets in the summer. Matte finishes and wood looks with natural color variation hide scratches best. If you want carpet in pet areas, choose a stain-resistant fiber such as Mohawk SmartStrand or Shaw LifeGuard with its spill-proof backing.

What flooring works best in kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms?

Waterproof luxury vinyl plank and porcelain tile are the best choices for any room that sees water. Avoid solid hardwood in these spaces, and use laminate or engineered hardwood only where the product is rated for the room and water exposure is limited. Browse luxury vinyl and tile.

What flooring is allowed in Miami condos?

Many South Florida condo associations require hard-surface floors such as LVP, tile or hardwood to be installed over an acoustic underlayment that meets a minimum sound rating (often listed as IIC and STC values), and some require approval before work begins. Get your association's flooring rules first, then bring them to us — we'll help you match a floor and underlayment that meet the requirement.

Can I see how a floor will look in my home before I buy?

Yes, in three ways. Use the room visualizer in our online catalog to upload a photo of your room and see products in your own space. Take samples home from the showroom to view them in your lighting. Or book shop-at-home service and we'll bring the samples to you.

Installation Services

Does Pride Flooring install the floors it sells?

Yes. Pride Flooring & Home Decor installs with its own in-house installation crews, covering luxury vinyl plank, engineered hardwood, laminate, tile and carpet. Our installers take every specification of your space into account and aim to get it right the first time — customers often mention them by name in their reviews. Learn more about our installation services.

How long does flooring installation take?

It depends on the size of the job, the product and how much prep the subfloor needs. Many single-floor LVP projects take one to a few days, while a whole level of a home can take about a week. One homebuyer had the old floors removed and new LVP installed in a single day, with new baseboards added the next day; another customer's entire downstairs was completed in about a week.

Do you remove old flooring and install baseboards?

Yes. Our crews can take up existing flooring — including glued-down hardwood — and install new baseboards as part of your project. Ask for removal and trim to be included when you request your estimate so your quote reflects the full job.

How should I prepare my home for flooring installation?

A little prep keeps installation day on schedule:

  • Clear small items, décor and breakables from the rooms being floored.
  • Ask your estimator whether furniture moving is included in your quote.
  • Keep the air conditioning running at normal living temperatures before and during installation.
  • Plan a safe spot for pets and kids, and clear a path for the crew to bring materials in.

Shop at Home, Showroom & Estimates

Does Pride Flooring offer shop-at-home service?

Yes. Book an appointment and a Pride Flooring expert comes to your home with samples, measures your space and prepares an estimate, so you can compare options in your own lighting next to your furniture and cabinets. It's ideal if you're short on time or want advice on the actual rooms. Request a shop-at-home appointment.

How does an in-home estimate work?

  1. Request an appointment online or call (305) 233-2619.
  2. A flooring expert visits, measures each room, looks at your subfloor and transitions, and shows you samples.
  3. You receive an outline of the estimated cost for your project, with no obligation.

Accurate measurements prevent over-buying and surprise shortages. Learn more about in-home estimates.

Do I need an appointment to visit the showroom?

No. You're welcome to walk into our showroom at 10790 SW 184th St any time during business hours to see, touch and compare floors in person. If you'd like dedicated time with a specialist, call ahead and we'll have someone ready for you.

Do you offer design consultations?

Yes. Our design consultants help you plan layout, measurements and colors, taking into account your budget, how the space is used, the look you want and any furnishings you need to work around. Learn more about our design consultation service.

Commercial Flooring

Does Pride Flooring handle commercial flooring in Miami?

Yes. Pride Flooring & Home Decor supplies and installs flooring for corporate offices, healthcare spaces, hotels, retail stores and restaurants across Miami-Dade. We evaluate foot traffic, how long people spend in the space, maintenance needs and the impression your brand needs to make before recommending a floor. See our commercial flooring services.

What flooring is best for commercial spaces?

It depends on the space:

Space Common choice Why
Offices Carpet tile Quiet, comfortable, individual tiles can be swapped
Retail, restaurants, hospitality Commercial luxury vinyl (20 mil+ wear layer) Waterproof, durable, wood and stone looks
Healthcare, schools, back-of-house Vinyl composition tile (VCT), sheet vinyl, rubber Cleanable, heavy-duty, rolling-load friendly
Lobbies, restrooms, high traffic Porcelain tile Extremely hard-wearing and water-resistant

Pricing, Financing & Warranties

How much does new flooring cost in Miami?

The total depends on the product you choose and the work your space needs. The biggest factors are:

  • Flooring type, brand and wear layer
  • Total square footage and how many rooms
  • Subfloor prep, such as leveling a slab or uneven tile
  • Removal of existing flooring
  • Stairs, baseboards and transitions
  • Layout complexity, such as herringbone or diagonal patterns

The fastest way to an accurate number is a no-obligation in-home estimate. If you're working to a tight budget, ask about our in-stock and cash-and-carry options.

Does Pride Flooring offer financing?

Yes — customers have used our financing options to spread out the cost of their projects. Ask about current financing terms when you request your estimate or visit the showroom.

What warranties come with my new floors?

The flooring we sell is backed by manufacturer warranties, which can cover wear, water and pet damage depending on the brand and product. We explain the warranty on each product before you buy, and our installers follow manufacturer installation guidelines so your coverage stays valid. Ask our team about workmanship coverage on your installation.

Client notes (updated in file content)

  • Under Trusted Brands, we don’t do much with Mannington and Daltile, but we can get them. I would add Canopy Floors instead https://www.canopyfloors.com/ and Happy Floors https://happy-floors.com/ instead. But you know better, if the bots like Mannington and Daltile, leave it there.
  • Under Difference between SPC & WPC, we hate Shaw Florte. I would instead differentiate between COREtec Pro (SPC) & COREtec Originals (WPC) also remove the Armstrong rigid core and add Canopy instead.
  • Under Window Treatments, we really want to push and highlight Hunter Douglas. We also want to add Alta Window Fashions as a brand we carry https://www.altawindowfashions.com/
  • Under Which window treatments help with Miami heat and glare? – Change Bandalux to Hunter Douglas and Graber to Alta
